Mysticism. It’s for everyone!

What comes to mind when you hear the word mysticism?

Crystals? Astral projection? The Force?

The term has many associations, and not all are good. Interestingly enough, however, the term originated in the Church.

What is Mysticism?

Mysticism is the act of union with God.

It’s important to know that this union does NOT mean becoming God. In fact, as the Christian mystics understand it, this union is none other than what Jesus talks about in John 15.

In other words, mysticism is abiding in Christ and bearing fruit.

But, like, at a professional level.

This union is the goal of the Christian life. It’s what His Holy Spirit is preparing us for as we follow Christ day by day.

Mystics are far along in the process, perhaps as far as one is able this side of eternity.

They are our guides who speak of the reality of life in God and the importance of sticking with Him.

What Mysticism Tells Us

Depiction of a famous scene from Julian of Norwich’s Revelations of Divine Love.

Why all this mysticism talk in the first place?

Because mysticism reminds us that we bear fruit for a purpose.

And that purpose isn’t just to feel good. It’s to live in alignment with what we were created for… life with God.

When we abide in Jesus and bear fruit, we live in alignment with our original design and purpose!

The more we seek Him, the more we follow Him and allow His Holy Spirit to change us, and the more complete we become.

And not only does this completion change us for the better but it replicates and spreads the light and love of God throughout the world. This creates encounters with other people who can then follow the same path to completion.

What does it mean to bear fruit in our daily lives? It is to experience the hope for all humankind and to grow towards that which our Creator calls good.

May we go forth and bear more fruit, from now into the fullness of His Kingdom.

For now, be blessed.
