The Forgotten Christmas Stories

Note: Aaron here for another week. Enjoy!

It’s Christmas time again.

Michael Buble has arisen from his 11 months of slumber to grace the radio with his Christmas Classics, Home Alone is on TV and at church the stories of Advent are in full swing.

It really is one of the most wonderful times of the year.

And with it comes the Christmas Story.

We read about baby Jesus, his mother Mary, the shepherds and the wise men. We read about how the star in the east arose and how the angels in the night appeared. We read and hear about the manger and how there was no room at the inn.

These are classic Christmas stories and rightly so – they form the core of the wonderful story of how God Himself came down to earth as a baby. It is miraculous. The words of a Christmas song rings through my ears:

It's still a mystery to me, that the hands of God could be so small. How tiny fingers reaching in the night, were the very hands that measured the sky.

Here with us (Joy Williams)

It truly is incredible.

But this week I want to go a different direction than the classic Christmas story. This week we are going to look at some “forgotten” characters in the story. Characters who are there, play a role, but don’t get talked about too often.

And by examining their lives and their role in the story hopefully we can gain some valuable insight into the Christmas story.

Come back tomorrow where when we will dive into the first of these characters – Zechariah and Elizabeth.

For now, be blessed.

Aaron,
