New series format!
Depiction of the Council of Nicaea (325).
Hey, guys, Jon here.
This week on Theophilus we’re trying something different.
You may have noticed that the Church is a diverse place, composed of diverse people with diverse backgrounds.
And we love that!
You got the Calvinists and the Catholics and the Anabaptists and the Serbian Orthodox but also the Coptic Orthodox but don’t forget the Southern Baptist Convention and the Protestantse Kerk in Nederland and that non-denominational church down the street with the pastor whose jeans are too tight.
It’s a lot.
So it should come as no surprise that many opinions exist inside the Church.
The essence of the Gospel doesn’t change but the context in which we apply it certainly does.
As a result, we’re always confronted with new questions and challenges, and, spoiler alert, not every Jesus follower comes to the same conclusion.
So Aaron and I had an idea.
We thought it would be interesting to present two different Christian perspectives on a topic relevant to the Church.
Here’s what that looks like:
Person A shares their perspective on Monday and Person B shares theirs on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Person A responds to what Person B wrote, and vice-versa on Thursday.
The goal here isn’t to debate so much as to show how two followers of Jesus can think differently.
But the main goal is to promote unity amongst those who, standing on the same Gospel, have differing opinions.
So this week Aaron and I are going to kick off the format by discussing a topic near and dear to many hearts:
Media.
TV, movies, music, podcasts, and more. As followers of Jesus, what boundaries should we put on these things? If they aren’t explicitly “Christian” should we reject them all together? Or is the issue gray instead of black and white?
Tomorrow, Aaron will make his case. On Tuesday, I’ll make mine. Afterward, we’ll respond to each other and, hopefully, learn something new along the way.
So join us as we give this a whirl and let’s see how far we can reach across the aisle!
For now, be blessed.
