A Call to Memorization. Will you Join Me?

When I was 12 years old my Sunday School teacher paid me 100$ to memorize Hebrews chapter 11.

Excited by the prospect of a whole $100, I went home, got out my journal and pen and began. I memorized it backwards and forwards – literally. I knew that if I could say it backwards I had it.

And it worked.

I memorized Hebrews chapter 11. He gave me another $100 for Hebrews 12. And another $100 for Hebrews 13. I memorized them all.

When I was 19 I decided to memorize the whole New Testament. I did not get far. But, at one point I could tell you the entire first 4 chapters of Matthew from the heart, including the genealogy.

6 years later

I am now 25.

I haven’t spent much time memorizing lately, I guess life got too busy, and it didn’t seem a priority.

This past week though I stumbled upon this great podcast.

And it inspired me.

The way he talked about memorization was so different than I had ever heard before. It was not about keeping it in your head forever. It was about letting the Word sink in, and trusting the Holy Spirit to use it.

Memorizing again

I want to commit God’s Word to memory. And not just small verses, but an extended memorization. Books of the Bible.

According to the podcast Ephesians is one of the best books to start with – because it's short and interesting.

So that is where I am starting.

Join me?

Do you want to join me in memorizing Ephesians?

There are 155 verses in Ephesians. I plan on memorizing an average of two a day starting Dec 1.

In about 3 months, we will have completed the whole book.

If you are interested, reach out and connect. I would love to do this with the Theophilus community.

It's always better together.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Blessings,

Aaron
