I understand nothing...
At least not without some help...

Filmmaking and Jesus
I have been attempting to learn filmmaking lately.
I find the idea of learning how to create a story that transforms people a fascinating topic. It is incredible that through the weaving together of a story one can bring tears, laughter, and moral lessons.
Therefore, it really is no surprise that Jesus decided to use stories to tell us about how the world works. We call these stories parables.
Jesus would tell many such stories:
The Good Samaritan
The Parable of the Sower
The Prodigal Son
Why did Jesus use stories?
The funny thing is, these stories did not always make it clear to the audience what the point was. They often left a lot of room for interpretation.
Which I mean is weird right?
This is Jesus' one chance on earth to tell us exactly how we should live to honor God and he chooses to do it in a super roundabout way. Why would he do that?
The first clue is found in Matthew.
The disciples ask him directly “why do you teach in parables,” and Jesus gives a cryptic answer.
“ For this reason I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand”,

Weird right?
“Seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear.” What is up with that?
Well there are countless interpretations of this, but I think one way to interpret this is through another verse found in Matthew:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you”
In other words: It is only those who seek – who see, and only those who knock – who understand (hear).
Application
It appears that there is some work for us to do. Jesus is after people who are truly seeking him.
In fact in Revelation it says he spits out the “luke-warm” church.
I don’t think Jesus purposely makes it hard for us to follow him, but he does ask that you really give it your all.
That you take the time to get to know Him - that he may grant you understanding.
So my prayer this week, when you read your Bible and come across something utterly confusing, you would take the time to seek, ask and knock.
And in doing so, commune with the God of the universe.
Till next time,
Be Blessed
