📖 Israel, Gaza and being a Christian

2 years ago on October 7th 2023 Hamas shot 4300 rockets

Our goal at Theophilus is to make Jesus’ teaching accessible and relevant for all in the 21st century. Do you want to join that mission? Consider supporting the Theophilus Newsletter. We would be utmost grateful 😀

Before we dive in: A quick note. Jon is away for the next number of weeks, and has limited time for writing. That means Jon and Aaron will be switching roles for a little bit. There will also be a number of guest writers. So in my first attempt at writing for 4 days, I (Aaron) tackle the “easy” topic of Israel and Gaza. - Aaron

Israel, Gaza and being a Christian

2 years ago, on October 7th 2023 Hamas shot 4300 rockets across the Gaza border into Israel killing nearly 1200 people.

This renewed the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, and spurred a new conflict, known as the Gaza war. T

And ever since this attack began, understandably, the attention of the world has focused on Israel and Palestine.

People on both sides shout and yell and post on social media claiming that they are in the right. There have been protests around the world, sparking debate and conversation in every household, all asking the same question…

What do you think about Israel and Gaza?

And while much has been written and said about this conflict in the last 2 years we here at Theophilus are going to take on the brave challenge this week of attempting to look at the topic from a Christian perspective.

And try to answer the question: How should we as Christians respond to the Israel-Gaza crises?

And while recently the war has tentatively come to an end in a new peace deal, we still believe it is worth looking at.

So, if you think this is going to be easy, well you have got it wrong. I am most likely to offend nearly all of you at some point this week.

We all have our views, biases and thoughts, and I am just as guilty as the next.

My goal this week is not to convince you, not to show you how to think, but to offer an honest reflective and biblical perspective on how we as Christians can approach and think about the topic.

I know that writing this will not change the lives of those affected by this crisis, but I hope it at least helps you to think about how to approach our world more like Jesus.

I am looking forward to it.

Talk to you tomorrow, where we will begin with the question:

Shouldn’t all Christians support Israel?

For now, be blessed.

Aaron
