Subject: Is God self-centered?

When we go to church we worship God.

When we listen the preacher he/she talks about โ€œliving for Gods Glory.โ€

When we read the bible we read verses like Isiah 48:11 which says โ€œI will not yield my glory to another,โ€ or commands to worship and praise the Lord like in the Psalms.

And when we hear all this, it can be easy to think โ€“ what kind of God is this who demands his own praise?

Is God-self-centred?

Did he just create humans to make himself feel good about himself, and have all of us for all eternity praising his characteristics?

I thought Jesus was supposed to be humble and here is demanding that we worship Him?

If you have every had thoughts like these, you are not alone. I mean, if you or I ever demanded that people worship us, we would be pretty quickly put in our place.

Do you remember the story of Joseph when he told his brothers they would bow down to him?

How did his brothers react? They sold him into slavery.

Joseph sold into slavery

So no, people do not like it when you tell them to worship you.

So why does God do it?

And how can God be the all loving God of hesed that we talked about last week and at the same time demand his own glory?

Do those two even reconcile?

Well buckle up because that is exactly the question we are going to be tackling this week in Theophilus as we try and unpack, what is meant by Gods glory, and why God asks that we give it to him.

Until tomorrow,

Be Blessed,

Aaron,
