📖 Delighting in Gods Word

Blessed is the man who...

Delighting in Gods Word

The one who delights in the law of the Lord is like a tree planted by streams of water.

Blessed is the one… [whose] delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1: 1a, 2

To delight on the law of the Lord (his Word).

What a foreign concept for so many of us. And yet the Bible calls such a person blessed.

I don’t know about you, but I would like to live a blessed life. I want to delight in God’s word.

Jesus is the Word

In John 1 we read something interesting. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1: 14).

This enigmatic verse makes clear something seemingly impossible. The Word of God became a human.

The Word of God is Jesus.

Now I am not saying that every time you pick up the Bible you are picking up Jesus, but the Bible makes clear they are linked.

Jesus is the Word or message from the Father to us. And that is also what the Bible is. God’s message to us.

And the more we learn to delight in Jesus as a person, the more we learn to delight in the Word.

They are linked.

The treasure of the Bible

So much more valuable than gold or silver

Yesterday we discussed 3 main challenges when reading the Bible, namely:

  • irrelevance,

  • confusion,

  • and the Devil.

These are real challenges.

But I want to give an encouragement. These challenges can be overcome when we more and more come to understand the treasure of the Bible.

One of my favourite passages of the Bible is about a man who finds a treasure in a field, and he sells all he has and buys the field to get it.

This verse is a beautiful illustration of the treasure of finding Jesus — of finding the truth of the Word of God.

When we come upon the truth of the Bible, We realize how beautifully priceless it is, and would give away all we have to access it — many people have.

And it is through His Word that we hear often hear God speak, hearing what he says and has said to His people, and learning about who he is.

We get to enter into a relationship with the God of the universe, and dialogue with Him everytime we pick up the Word.

Not always easy

Reading the Bible will not always be easy, but relating to the God of the universe through reading the Bible gives more than a temporary pleasure, it gives a soul level satisfaction that cannot be found in any other book.

The Bible is Gods word, and it is made to be enjoyed in beautiful relationship with God.

Still, you may be asking, how is this practically done?

Well come back tomorrow when we will discuss that.

Until then,

Aaron
