Are all the experiences of other religions fake?

There are people who claim to have miracles that happened to them, or who claim to have had intense spiritual experiences — and they are not Christian. Were these experiences a figment of their imagination?

As Christians, we struggle with these types of questions because we believe that the Christian God is the one and only true God and all other gods are a lie.

But does that mean that these other “gods” don’t exist?

Let me answer that for you: There are other “gods.”

Other “gods”

I don’t mean gods who don’t exist.

I mean, real spiritual beings who have influence and power in this earth – sometimes to even perform miracles. Beings who can communicate with us humans and give us intense spiritual moments.

And while these beings are not Yahweh, they are, nonetheless, real.

They exist.

So your friend who claimed to have a spiritual experience while doing something totally not Christian like engaging with crystals or worshiping another god. They may not be crazy. It just may have been a real spiritual experience.

But the question is — what god were they engaging with?

Or perhaps better put: what spirit were they engaging with? In Christianity, we believe that God has given us His Spirit to dwell in us and lead us into all truth. This is called the Holy Spirit.

But the Holy Spirit is not the only spirit that exists. There are of course angels, but also demons.

Our Battle

And these demons, are real spiritual beings that exist and interact with us.

Now for us in the west, we tend to believe demons only exist in the remote African village, listening to the commands of a witch doctor. But, the truth is, these spiritual beings exist all around us, even here in the west.

And their goal is to influence all people to believe in something other than Yahweh. As it says in Ephesians 6:12:

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

These other spiritual beings are real, and have genuine power.

The unseen world

Elijah Taken Up in a Chariot of Fire. Giuseppe Angeli, 1712 - 1798

So what is my point for this week?

My point is this.

Don’t forget the unseen world around us. As western Christians, it's so easy to forget that there exists a spiritual world, a spiritual battle around us. Let’s not be lulled into believing that what we see is all there is.

There is a spiritual battle going on, and God has called us to take part, to take up our armour, to pray, and to join in, in seeing God’s Kingdom become a reality.

So pick up your shield, sword, helmet etc. And let’s join the battle together this week!

Til next time,

Be Blessed.
