š The middle road does not exist...
Despite so many of us choosing for it.

The middle road does not existā¦

Two roads.
One narrow. One wide. One leads to eternal suffering, one to eternal joy.
Which do you choose?
If you are like many of us, you choose for neither. You instead choose for the middle road.
The one that is neither too narrow or too wide.
You are a good Christian, following the rules, you donāt associate yourself with āthose other peopleā who have no sense of decency. But you're careful not to take your beliefs too far either. After all, we donāt want to be grouped into the weirdoās and fanatics screaming at you on the street.
A nice happy medium.
There is only one problem with this solution. The middle road does not exist.
Moderation in everything?

Jesus does not preach moderation in following Him. He says:
āIf anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sistersāyes, even their own lifeāsuch a person cannot be my disciple.ā
As Timothy Keller wrote in the the Kings Cross: ā [Jesus] doesn't say to the crowd: Look, most of you can take it easy, but I need a few strong men and women who really want to go all the way in this discipleship.ā
No. He says, whoever follows me must take up his/her cross. Not just the preachers and missionaries. But also the teachers, financial analysts, nurses, engineers, software developers, and stay at home moms.
As good western Christians, we are often scared of being ātoo much a follower of Jesus.ā We donāt want to rock the boat with our beliefs. But I think we are looking at it the wrong way.
This is Good News
Jesus Christ is GOOD NEWS. We often find ourselves searching for meaning in all sorts of wrong places. And the truth is ā we will always be disappointed. Whether we achieve what we were aiming for or not.

Jim Carrey
As Jim Carrey (a famous actor) once said:
āI think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it's not the answer.ā
But Jesus, in contrast ā does satisfy. That is GOOD NEWS! That is news we should want to shareā¦ but we donāt.
Why? Because we have not experienced that satisfaction for ourselves. We only know about it second-hand, from others. And the reason we only know about it second-hand is because we have chosen to walk down a road that does not exist.
The middle road.
If we want to experience the true satisfaction of Jesus Christ. We need to step off the middle road. Itās not easy, but it is worth it.
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live, and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life.
Til next time,
Be Blessed,
Aaron
